Herman Miller's Education Solutions Make the Grade with 'School of the Future' at Greenbuild 2008
November 13, 2008   [E-mail Page]  [Print Page]

Herman Miller, Inc., will share its knowledge and approach toward higher education learning spaces at a special sustainable building environments exhibit located at the Greenbuild Conference and Expo, November 19-21, 2008, in Boston, Massachusetts. Called "High Performance School of the Future, Today," the exhibit will include a fully functional, interactive learning space to showcase advancements in sustainable design.

Hosted by Building Design and Construction magazine, together with design firm Project FROG (Flexible Response to Ongoing Growth), the exhibit will incorporate the most recent achievements in sustainable technologies and products available from manufacturers, such as Herman Miller and its alliance partner Bretford, Dell, Tate Access Floors, and Acuity Brands Lighting.

Designed to demonstrate the impact of LEED criteria on higher education facility performance, the space also will be studied to evaluate the relationship between building products and individual learning.

"We believe people, places and pedagogy drive great learning space design," notes Jeff Vredevoogd, Herman Miller's Education Solutions lead. "These components, together with furnishings that adapt to individual needs and learning styles, create spaces that enable faculty and students to actively engage in the learning process."

The environmental benefits that stem from flexible furnishings also drive the company's enthusiasm for higher education learning space design.

Adds Vredevoogd: "Spaces that may be easily reconfigured reduce potential construction or renovation waste that might be sent to a landfill. Additionally, they provide alternatives to existing facility space design and usage."

Greenbuild attendees may visit the "High Performance School of the Future, Today" exhibit at the Summer Street Plaza North entrance to the Boston Convention Center.
